Regulated Entertainment

If you wish to provide music/entertainment you must make application for a premises licence. The old rules that exempted 2 performers in a bar or private functions from the need to have a licence have been abolished. So a licence is required if you wish to provide:

  • Plays ( even a murder mystery evening)
  • Films.
  • Recorded music e.g Karaoke, Juke Box, DJ, and music just played through a HI-fi system. A licence is not required for background low volume music.
  • Live music.
  • Dance e.g - line dancing, salsa etc.
  • Indoor sports that attract an audience - Darts / Pool Championship matches, quizzes and the like.
  • Facilites for providing music or dance.
  • Anyone who may entertain - compere, magician, busker.
  • Facilities for other forms of entertainment e.g Fairgrounds, Circus and so on.

Just as in the case of sale of alcohol the Licensing Objectives will apply. In particular, what steps have you taken to provide for Public Safety? What steps have you taken to avoid a nuisance?

If this is not to be a regular feature it may be possible to apply for a Temporary Events Notice , provided the limitations of such a licence can be met.
