Health and Safety Law
With over 30 years prosecuting and defending Health and Safety cases I understand the work pressures that many are subject to and I can help.
I am asked to run legal update courses for the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health Consultants and the Institute of Chartered Engineers.
This whole aspect of my legal expertise was brought into sharper focus this year by taking and passing the NEBOSH Level 3 Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety. This covered a practical exam testing my ability to recognize hazards in the work place, controlling hazards in the work place and management of health and safety.
In 2006, I was involved in the first case under the Hand Arm Vibration Regulations.
I am currently dealing with a number of cases the most serious of which involve a fatality and amputation of a toe.
But there are increasing problems that can be unwittingly ignored in the workplace. Ergonomics - "the science of fitting man to machine" - is becoming increasingly relevant in all aspects of work life in the computer driven age.
In this section you will find information about:
- Health and Safety Policies and Risk Assessments
- The CDM regulations which came into force in April 2007
- Corporate Manslaughter Act
- Possible defence to Health and Safety cases as a result of recent Court of Appeal decision
